Welcome! Are you ready to get involved in your community school? If so, we hope you will join the PTA! The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a non-profit service organization devoted to the improvement and enhancement of Key School. All Key School parents are welcome to participate and encouraged to bring their talents and ideas to the PTA. Dues comprise a critical part of the PTA budget. The suggested dues contribution is from $200 to $300 depending on the number of children enrolled at Key. The PTA requires, however, a minimum dues contribution of $5 to be a voting member.
WHY YOUR PTA DUES MATTER!
Here are just some of the ‘extras’ covered by PTA funds:
- Teacher aide salaries
- Classroom set up and teacher funds
- Science fair and science program support
- Library books and reading and math resource materials
- Performing arts program and field trips
- Capital improvements and supplemental technology upgrades
And, the list goes on and on…
Without your contributions these programs wouldn’t exist at Key because, unfortunately, the DCPS budget cannot – and does not – support all the costs associated with our excellent academic program. Through the support of our generous parent body, the Key School PTA steps in and provides the necessary supplemental funds for many critical programs that make Key School the fantastic neighborhood school that it is.
Our combined dues and contributions are over 20% of our PTA income. As the student body continues to grow, stretching our facilities and faculty, this income is even more critical to our mission of supporting Mr. Landeryou and the staff in maintaining the high quality of education being offered to your children and ensuring there are adequate resources to do so.
Parents are encouraged to take advantage of Key’s many volunteer opportunities, including helping in classrooms and the library. Information regarding the numerous PTA committees and volunteer opportunities is distributed before the school year starts and continuously throughout the year. Any parent who has the time and inclination can easily find a way to participate. Visit this page to learn more.
The PTA Executive Board meetings, which are open to all parents, are held monthly. The PTA general meetings are held three times per year to give all parents a chance to participate in the decision-making process.
