August 11, 2019
We hope you are having a great summer! School starts soon and we want to make sure you have all the information you need.
New Parents 101
There’s a new page on the website, Key 101, to give new parents quick information to start the year off right. If you know any new parents, tell them to check it out and make sure they know to register on the directory here so that they can get NW@K updates.
PTO dues are a crucial component to supporting Key—paying aides salaries, running aftercare programming, providing the many yearly events of our Key Community. Please pay now so we can get off to a good start and be confident that we can continue to the support our quality programming.
For returning Key parents, please note that we have raised our suggested PTO dues contribution by $50 per student to help us cover the cost of our activities. This is the first time we have raised our dues in recent years, and we believe that this minimal increase will help us continue maintaining the quality programming for our Key families.
You can pay your PTO dues and bulk supplies here. Your PTO dues continue to be 100% tax deductible.
Bulk Supplies Distribution Help Needed
As many of you know the PTO coordinates the purchase of all school supplies for the entire school year. The biggest delivery and distribution of these supplies happens the week before school starts and we need volunteers to help. Come for half an hour, an hour, one day, or the whole time! Please contact Jessica Kramer if you can help at firstname.lastname@example.org.
When: Monday–Wednesday, August 19–21
Time: 10:00am–2:00pm each day
And please pay your Bulk Supplies fee here. Thank you!
Become a Room Parent
Want to be a room parent for the 2019-2020 school year? There are still spots available in several grades. Check out all the responsibilities involved and sign up here.
We are still ironing out afterschool offerings for the fall season and will send out the list in the next day or two. To help address the long waitlist for KEHP, we are adding additional classes to determine if the Key community wants programming until 5:15pm.
New Aftercare Program Available in the Palisades
Little Ivies DC (LIDC) will be offering its first classes and aftercare programming this year. The school was started by a local early childhood educator who served as Head of School at the Montessori School of Washington. The program is available for all ages PK–5th grade. The school is located across from the old Safeway at 4820 MacArthur Blvd, NW. Staff from LIDC will pick up children from Key and transport them to their building. If you are interested, contact the program head, Narissa Ali-James, at (202) 337-1930.
OPENINGS at the Community Preschool of the Palisades (CPP)
CCP still has space available for children ages 2 ½–4 ½ years of age! The preschool is dedicated to providing our community’s youngest learners with a high-quality early childhood education that supports their social-emotional, intellectual, and physical development. For more information or to schedule a tour, please contact Kate Murphy at email@example.com or (202) 364-8424.
