August 25, 2019
Believe it or not, summertime is at an end! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at school this week. Read on to find out what’s happening at Key …
First Day of School Drop Off
The first day of school for all grades except pre-K is tomorrow. School begins at 8:35 am and ends at 3:15 pm. Pre-K orientation will be held Monday and Tuesday of this week, and the pre-K first day of school is Wednesday.
Tomorrow, drop off for all students is on the blacktop outside the gymnasium doors by 8:30 am, where there will be a brief assembly followed by the children heading to their classrooms. You may NOT accompany your child to his or her classroom. It is important to give our teachers the opportunity to develop their own routines and schedules with the children—particularly in the first weeks of school.
While your child(ren) are headed to the classroom, head yourself to the cafeteria, where we will have coffee and pastries and can all cry or cheer together.
Please note there will be NO curbside drop off at the main entrance on the first day of school.
Morning Drop Off Help Needed
Every morning, we need TWO parents to volunteer to help with helping children out of their cars at the front entrance. It’s a great way to start your day—greeting all the little faces as they arrive at Key!
To share the load, as it were, we have assigned a month or more of Drop Off volunteer duty to each grade. The parents of each grade are required to fill the volunteer slots for the months to which they are assigned. Please sign up for at least one slot. If every family does this, we will be covered for the entire year!
Below is the schedule and sign-up genius links. You can see the number of children in each class and the days of required duty are spread out as evenly as possible. Fifth grade parents, we need you NOW! You know the drill. Show the new parents how it’s done.

New Parents 101
There’s a new page on the website, Key 101, to give new parents quick information to start the year off right. If you know any new parents, tell them to check it out and make sure they know to register on the directory here so that they can get NW@K updates.
Please Pay Your PTO Dues
PTO dues are a crucial component to supporting Key—paying aides salaries, running aftercare programming, providing the many yearly events of our Key Community. Please pay now so we can get off to a good start and be confident that we can continue to the support our quality programming.
For returning Key parents, please note that we have raised our suggested PTO dues contribution by $50 per student to help us cover the cost of our activities. This is the first time we have raised our dues in recent years, and we believe that this minimal increase will help us continue maintaining the quality programming for our Key families.
You can pay your PTO dues and bulk supplies here. Your PTO dues continue to be 100% tax deductible.
