The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is a group of elected and appointed members that exists for every DCPS school. The purpose of the LSAT is to increase transparency in decision making and to ensure that decisions affecting school communities are made with collaborative input from diverse school stakeholders. The LSAT advises school principals on topics including, but not limited to, school priorities and initiatives, the development of the Comprehensive School Plan, and the alignment of school goals with the annual budget and with broader DCPS initiatives.
In order to carry out this charge, the LSAT members work with the principal and DCPS central office in professional development sessions to analyze data, current challenges, and multiple perspectives in order to better understand the needs of the students and the local school. It is not the role of the Local School Advisory Team to pass resolutions, but rather to advise and inform the school leadership team.
